Silent Ripples: Unnoticed News Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic

Description

Silent Ripples: Unseen News Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic is a thought-provoking photographic project that unveils the obscured stories that happened during the Coronavirus pandemic. In the midst of global uncertainty, the project focuses on a minimally changing view of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, captured every morning and evening from March 17th, 2020, to May 17th, 2020. Through this series, I aim to explore real life photography, capturing the quiet persistence of life amidst the noise of the pandemic.

Amidst the overwhelming tide of Covid-19 news coverage, vital global events outside the realm of the pandemic were fading into silence. Incidents of terrorism in Nigeria, fresh outbreaks of Ebola, and significant findings concerning Syria's use of chemical weapons were relegated to the shadows, receiving minimal attention in the mainstream media. What was once headline-worthy news became mere footnotes, buried beneath the relentless coverage of the pandemic. This project, through the lens of tragedy photography, serves as a reminder that life continued beyond the immediate scope of Covid-19. It stands as a visual reflection of the enduring rhythms of the world, capturing moments that went unnoticed in the rush of global events. The images challenge the selective focus of media and serve as a documentary photography exploration of the pandemic’s impact, revealing how life in certain corners of the world remained unchanged despite the chaos.
